Manufacturing overview

A multilayer board combines multiple copper layers in a defined stackup. Layer order, dielectric thickness, copper weights and material selection should be confirmed before fabrication.

Stackup information

Provide layer names, the intended construction and any finished-thickness target. Identify controlled-impedance layers and material restrictions so proposed engineering changes can be evaluated.

Via structures and verification

State the spans of blind or buried vias and any filling or capping requirements. Confirm required electrical testing, impedance verification and records with the order.

Define a multilayer PCB stackup

A multilayer quotation needs more than the total layer count. Identify the layer order, copper distribution, dielectric construction and interconnection strategy. The same number of layers can describe very different boards, particularly when thickness, impedance or blind and buried vias are involved.

Define a multilayer PCB stackup
Stackup inputWhy it matters
Signal and plane allocationConnects the electrical layout to the physical construction.
Core and bonding layersDefines dielectric thickness and laminate construction.
Inner and outer copperAffects the stackup, feature geometry and manufacturing route.
Via spansIdentifies which layers need to be interconnected.

What to include in your quotation request

Provide the fabrication package and drawing at one revision. Distinguish fixed requirements from items open to engineering proposals. Include quantity and the required ship or arrival date; the material, construction and verification scope must be reviewed before the delivery plan is confirmed.

  • Fabrication artwork, drill data and mechanical outline.
  • Stackup, material grades and finished copper requirements.
  • Surface finish, critical tolerances and special features.
  • Required inspection, test conditions and documentation.
  • Quantity, project stage, destination and date requirement.
